An annual support license is recommended for websites running Paid Memberships Pro.

This page outlines the steps to take to review your license key usage, regenerate your key, and upgrade your plan to purchase additional uses.

Review License Key Uses

The steps below show you how to review the sites that are using your active Paid Memberships Pro license:

  1. Visit your Manage License page here.
  2. Review the list of sites in the Active group.

If you find sites that should not be on your account, regenerate your key and replace it only on the sites you want to keep active. The key will deactivate on all other sites the next time the WordPress admin is loaded.

Note: When a license key gets deactivated, the site will continue to function as-is (based on their last update for any premium features). The site will no longer be able to install new Add Ons or update existing premium Add Ons.

How to Generate a New Key and Update Your Site

  1. Visit your Manage License page here.
  2. Click “Generate New Key“.
  3. Copy the new key to your clipboard.
  4. Navigate to Memberships > License in your site’s WordPress admin.
  5. Enter the new key, and click “Validate“.

License Usage Exceeded

Your PMPro license can be used on unlimited demo, staging, and testing environments (domains ending in .dev, .staging, .local, etc.). Activations on sites we detect as “Development Sites” do not impact your license limits.

All other sites are included in your Active site count. The number of key uses for your account will be shown with your license key on the Manage License page.

Here are the options available to you if you have exceeded your limit and want to maintain all of the active sites in your account.

For Standard Members

As a Standard Member, you can use your license key on one active site. If you’ve exceeded the allowed number of sites for your plan, you have two options:

  • Upgrade to Max for unlimited active sites on your own hosted server, plus the ability to use your key on one additional site elsewhere. This upgrade won’t change your license key. Your existing key is updated after checkout.
  • If you’d prefer to add uses to your current plan, submit the form on this page. Our accounts team will reply with a personalized discount code for additional uses ($200/year each).

For Max Members

As a Max Member, you can use your license key on unlimited active sites on your hosted server, plus one additional active site elsewhere. This is the best option if you run many sites of your own and occasionally need to activate on an external site.

Purchase Additional Licenses

Before you can purchase additional licenses, you must have an active Plus membership level. Please choose a premium plan or log in using your current Plus account to purchase additional licenses.

Steps to Prevent License Abuse

The team at Paid Memberships Pro keeps an eye on your license key usage to protect against license key sharing.

  • If we detect that you have exceeded the usage for your key, we will reach out to you by email with your options to fix the issue.
  • If you do not take a recommended action, we will regenerate your key for you. You will receive an email with instructions on how to securely access your new key.

All sites using your previous key will become unlicensed and will need to be re-licensed with the new key.
