Challenge
Christian Leuschner needed a way to monetize his German language podcast and deliver rich multimedia course content – without a technical background or a big budget to get started.
Solution
Paid Memberships Pro gave Christian the tools to launch and grow a fully featured membership course site with tiered access, email automation, discount codes, and payment integrations, letting him focus on storytelling and content while PMPro handled the business.

I needed the website to generate income from the people who really loved the podcast and wanted some additional material to learn German even faster.

We believe in open source software.
We’re tired of plugins and themes that don’t play well together, aren’t you?
At PMPro, we fully embrace open source, which means that compatibility problems are less likely—and they’re easier to fix if they do happen.
We make our code publicly available so anyone can read it, extend it, and integrate with it. We work closely with plugin and theme authors to handle compatibility issues so you don’t have to.

I am able to generate a steady income using the PMPro plugin with all its features. What would I be doing without this plugin? I don't know.
The support is also great, and able to solve any issues. Overall I'm very satisfied.
Own Your Platform, Content, and Listener Data
We always say, “Own the land your business is built on,” and with podcasting this could not be more relevant. With some other podcast membership platforms, you don’t have the same ownership, which could mean:
You rely entirely on the platform (and its viability)
You have to worry about being controlled, censored, or wrongfully shut down
You’re stuck paying huge fees that cut into your podcast revenue—platforms like Patreon take 5–15% of everything you earn
You can’t easily export your episodes, analytics, or subscriber data
You can’t access your listeners (audience) outside of the platform
When you use PMPro to sell podcast memberships, you retain 100% ownership with total access to your content and audience.
Everything You Need to Run a Podcast Membership
PMPro handles the tech. You focus on creating episodes and getting paid.
Use your podcast as lead gen and monetize through membership—community access, private video, behind the scenes, courses, and more.
Deliver private podcast feeds via Castos or secure member RSS feeds. Members listen in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or their favorite app.
Track subscriber growth, retention, and revenue with built-in reports. Know exactly how your podcast membership is performing.
Use PMPro with Castos for private podcasting, or the Member RSS Feed Add On to deliver secure, authenticated RSS feeds directly from WordPress.
Keep your podcast free and streaming everywhere, then convert listeners into paying members for exclusive content, community, and more.
Need to connect to another platform? Use Zapier to connect PMPro with over 5,000 third-party platforms.
A Flexible Platform With Integrations Galore
Connect your podcast membership site with the most popular WordPress plugins, hosting platforms, and third-party services.
Do I Really Need a Website?
Not necessarily. But without a site you own, access to your audience and your monetization strategy is always at the mercy of someone else’s platform.
The most successful podcast memberships aren’t just private feeds. They’re full content hubs. Keep your podcast free everywhere, and use your membership for community, courses, behind-the-scenes content, and more. Your podcast builds the audience. Your membership site monetizes it.
Our Commitment to You: Money Back Guarantee
Every purchase is backed by a 100 day money-back guarantee. If you decide not to use your premium plan, request a full refund—no questions asked.
Even if your request comes after 100 days, we will still refund your payment by any means necessary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which plan should I choose?
We currently offer three plans: Free, Standard, and Plus. We put together a full guide to help you select the right plan for your business.
We designed these plans through our experience supporting thousands of membership sites on this platform for over 10 years. As such, Add Ons cannot be purchased individually. As a fully open source WordPress plugin, you can use our code for free if you cannot afford a membership or if you’re just testing.
Remember that if your needs change in the future, you can upgrade at any time and it will not affect your site settings, content, user and member information, or subscriptions.
If you’ve already read the guide and still can’t decide which plan is right for you, you can always try out Paid Memberships Pro for free.
What is a private podcast?
A private podcast is a podcast that is only available to certain individuals—in this case, your paying members. Instead of being listed on public directories like Apple Podcasts or Spotify, private podcast episodes are delivered through a secure, members-only RSS feed. Your subscribers can still listen in their favorite podcast app, but only after they’ve been granted access through their membership.
Can I run both a free and paid podcast?
Absolutely. Many podcasters use a free public podcast to attract new listeners, then offer a premium members-only podcast with bonus episodes, extended interviews, or ad-free content. PMPro supports free memberships, plus every variation of paid membership from one-time, fixed-term, recurring, trials, lifetime, and more.
How does the Castos integration work?
Castos is a podcast hosting platform that specializes in private podcasting. When a member joins your site at a specific membership level, PMPro automatically adds them to the corresponding private podcast feed in Castos. When a member cancels or their subscription expires, they are automatically removed. There’s no manual work involved—it all happens seamlessly behind the scenes.
What is the Member RSS Feed Add On?
The Member RSS Feed Add On creates unique, member-specific RSS feed URLs that respect your content restrictions. Each member gets a personalized feed URL with a secure memberkey—or can use basic header authentication via Application Passwords for even more secure access. This is ideal if you want to deliver private podcast episodes directly from WordPress without a third-party podcast host. Members can paste their unique RSS feed URL into any podcast app that supports authenticated feeds.
Do I have to make my podcast private to use PMPro?
Not at all. Many podcasters keep their show completely free and public—streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and everywhere else—and use their membership site for other premium content. Your podcast can be powerful lead generation, and your membership site is where you monetize those leads through community access, courses, private video, behind-the-scenes content, thought leadership resources, and more.
Will I get to keep all of my podcast revenue?
Platforms like Patreon take 5–15% of your revenue. Paid Memberships Pro is a 100% free and open source software. We do not take any portion of your podcast membership revenue at the platform level.
Your payment gateway does impose fees for credit card processing. Please check with your gateway to determine their fees.
We have a special relationship with Stripe whereby membership sites that do not have a valid premium license pay 2% in gateway fees on top of the default gateway fees imposed by Stripe. You can remove this fee by upgrading to a Standard or higher membership plan (starting at $347/yr.) or using the recipe in this post to remove the connected platform fee.
Can I use Paid Memberships Pro even if I'm not a technical person?
There are over 60,000 sites that use Paid Memberships Pro — and from our customer research most of them are DIY. They’re building their own site (not working with a developer) just like you.
Here’s what our user @asienchris says about PMPro:
How much support can I expect to receive?
We provide very deep support and are able to troubleshoot most issues via the support forums.
Some custom code is straight forward, and we can assist with writing the code and instructing you on exactly where to put it. If you have found a tutorial on our site about a customization, we can usually help you to set that customization up or tweak it in small ways.
What if I have unique requirements and need more help?
In the case you need more hands on help, we can recommend a developer we trust.
We will write the requirements and outline the possible solutions for you to share with them. This alone saves your developer tons of time, which saves you hundreds of dollars.
