Getting Started

This page will guide you on how to download and install the Memberlite theme to begin designing your membership site. Memberlite is free with any Paid Memberships Pro account. You can access all available downloads for your account on the My Downloads page here (free or premium membership required).

1. Download the Theme

Use the following download links to get the Memberlite theme and the blank Memberlite Child Theme (recommended).

Memberlite is built to work with Paid Memberships Pro. If you haven’t installed PMPro yet, download and install the plugin here, then come back to add the theme.

2. Install and Activate the Theme

You can upload the .zip file of Memberlite via the Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme screen.

Keep the downloaded file zipped up (do not extract/unzip the file).
Go to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme.
Choose the memberlite.zip file and click Install Now.
Once installed, click Activate to make Memberlite your active theme.

Or, upload the unzipped ‘memberlite‘ theme folder to the /wp-content/themes/ folder of your site’s web hosting environment, then activate it from the Appearance > Themes screen.

Fixing File Size Limit Errors When Uploading the Theme

Some hosts restrict the maximum file size for uploads, which may prevent the Memberlite ZIP file from being uploaded.

To resolve this, you have a couple of options:

Contact Your Hosting Provider: Your host can increase the post_max_size and upload_max_filesize limits for you.
Upload via SFTP: You can manually upload the theme files to your site using an SFTP client. To do this:
- Extract the Memberlite ZIP file on your computer.
- Navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and upload the memberlite folder.
- Once uploaded, navigate to Appearance > Themes in the WordPress admin and activate Memberlite.
- Use an SFTP client (like FileZilla) to connect to your site.

3. Install the Memberlite Child Theme (Recommended)

We highly recommend installing the Memberlite Child Theme. This is an important and helpful early step to prevent future complexities if later decide to customize Memberlite’s design or templates, add custom CSS, fonts, images, and more. This step prevents your changes from being overwritten by future Memberlite theme updates.

These steps assume you have already installed the main Memberlite theme above.

Download the Memberlite Child Theme .zip file from the table above.
Keep the downloaded file zipped up (do not extract/unzip the file).
Go to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme.
Upload the .zip file, then click Activate.

Note: Membelite 7.1.2+ Theme Customizer settings will automatically transfer between parent and child theme on activation. If you were already using Memberlite, reach out to our support team for help with a script to migrate your settings.
